FAQ

Short answers about how Syntglow works.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Syntglow runs in the browser. Create an account, open the workspace, and start.

Where are my MP3 and images stored?

On your computer only. MIDI, audio, and images stay in your browser for the session — we do not upload them to our servers.

How does rendering work?

The MP4 is encoded in your browser with Remotion’s client renderer. There is no cloud render queue — speed depends on your device. Lower resolution and 30 fps finish much faster than 1080p60. Syntglow is built for a desktop or laptop; phones and tablets are not a reliable place to render.

What does Preview FPS mean?

Preview FPS is how smoothly the live workspace preview is running right now. More active instruments, denser MIDI notes, and higher effect settings make the preview harder for your browser — you may see the number drop. That is normal and only about the preview. A successful MP4 render still writes every frame at your chosen 30 or 60 fps, so the exported video keeps a steady frame rate even if preview lagged.

Can I open Syntglow on a phone?

Yes — the site pages (home, FAQ, login, and so on) load in a mobile browser so you can look around. The workspace and rendering are meant for a computer or laptop. Preview and render on a phone or tablet may be slow, unstable, or incomplete.

What PC do you recommend?

The service is designed for a computer or laptop — not for phones. Recommended: at least 16 GB RAM and a graphics card with 4 GB VRAM (or more). Weaker machines can still render, especially at 720p / 30 fps, but long tracks or 1080p60 may be slow or strain memory. Close other heavy tabs while rendering.

Which browser should I use?

We recommend a current Chromium-based browser on desktop or laptop (for example Google Chrome). You can install one freely if you do not have it yet. Other browsers may work, but preview and especially local MP4 render are less reliable there until we list them as supported.

What files do I need?

A MIDI file for notes/tracks, an audio file for sound, and optionally a JPG/PNG/WebP/GIF background image.

Which audio formats are supported?

MP3, M4A, and AAC are the recommended formats. WAV also works, but is not recommended — files are much larger and use more memory in the browser. MIDI belongs in the MIDI slot, not as audio.

How many MIDI tracks / instruments can I use?

We use up to 10 MIDI tracks with instruments. If your file has more, only the first 10 are loaded — the rest are ignored.

How long can a track be?

Short-to-medium tracks work best in the browser. Very long songs can be slow or strain memory — keep an eye on length when you render.

Can I save presets?

No cloud save. Work stays in your browser for the session — load MIDI/audio again when you return. Export the finished MP4 to keep the result.

Is Syntglow free?

Syntglow is freemium. On the Free plan you get up to 3 renders per day, each at most 3 minutes long, at a lower resolution with a watermark, on the standard presets. A paid plan unlocks the full library of presets, higher quality, no watermark, and the complete feature set. Accounts are personal (device limits apply). See Terms of Service for current rules.
